Bittersweet Silence

Oh what it is to sleep
    to sleep
            to dream
To let the soothing darkness fall
    like a soft, warm blanket
Over the burning fires
    of trouble
             and pain
The very same fires that
    rage
                    and flare
    throughout the day
Bringing us an overwhelming desire to be
            smothered
Only as long as the pain is
    guaranteed
to end
The sweet silence that would then ensue
            bittersweet silence...
Silence that is overwhelmingly
    oppressive
but yet still better than
            the burning ache of stress
Slowly the world is blanketed by the soothing
    silence
                    and all fades to black
            never to awaken.
